Musical

Jack Singer finally gets up the nerve to ask his girlfriend Betsy to marry him, but discovers a rival for her affections in smooth-talking gambler Tommy Korman. Can Jack win Betsy back? What happens next is anybody's bet!

Honeymoon in Vegas, based on the hit movie, is a musical comedy that tells the tale of Jack Singer, a guy with an extraordinary fear of marriage, who finally overcomes his phobia and goes to Las Vegas to wed his girlfriend, Betsy. Enter Tommy Korman, an unscrupulous gambler looking for another shot at love. Tommy spots Betsy, who bears an uncanny resemblance to his late wife, and the game is afoot.

Notes from James:

A popular movie from the 90's turned into a big splashy Broadway musical? What will they think of next? I'm kidding of course. After all some of the Great White Way's most successful show's are based on hit movies from the past few decades. Honeymoon in Vegas which is based on the 1992 movie of the same name is set to begin previews at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre on November 18, 2014 with opening night scheduled for January 15, 2015. Two months of previews? That seems like a long time for a show that has already had a regional production and has been in the works for a few years.

Oh well. I guess that will give them plenty of time to work out all the kinks. Now while I have never seen the movie I am a fan of it's composer Jason Robert Brown who by the way just won two Tony Awards a couple of weeks ago for The Bridges of Madison County which shuttered last month. Let's hope this movie turned musical fares much better. Now for those of you who are like me and have never seen the movie here is a brief synopsis of Honeymoon In Vegas from the show's website.

Honeymoon In Vegas tells the story of Jack Singer, a regular guy with an extraordinary fear of marriage, who finally gets up the nerve to ask his girlfriend Betsy to marry him. But when they head to Las Vegas to get hitched, smooth talking gambler Tommy Korman, looking for a second chance at love, falls head over heels for Betsy. What happens next is anybody's bet! Sounds like it could be a lot of fun. Let's hope it's a hit. Get your tickets to see Honeymoon In Vegas on Broadway at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. Until next time theatre fans.
