It’s opening night of Peter Austin’s new play as he anxiously waits to see if his show is a hit. He shares the big night with his best friend, a television star; his fledgling producer; his erratic leading lady; his wunderkind director; an infamous drama critic; and a fresh-off-the-bus coat check attendant on his first night in Manhattan. Starring F. Murray Abraham, Matthew Broderick, Stockard Channing, Katie Finneran, Maulik Pancholy, Martin Short and Micah Stock.

After their opening night perfomance, the whole team gathers for a lavish party thrown by a wealthy producer. Their show might not be any good, but it's highly entertaining to watch them blame the bad reviews on each other.

Notes from James:

Well I guess the saying is true. "You can go home again." That's right theatre fans. Nathan Lane and Mathew Broderick who first gained fame as one of Broadway's favorite duos thirteen years ago in The Producer's are teaming up again in Terrence McNally's It's Only A Play. The show which is scheduled to play a limited seventeen week engagement at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre will begin previews on September 4 with opening night set for October 9.

Co-starring along Mr. Lane and Mr. Broderick are Tony winner Stockard Channing, Academy Award winner F. Murray Abraham and Emmy winner Megan Mullally. Now that's what I call an all-star cast. Throw in two-time Tony winner Jack O'Brien as director and you have what is sure to be one of this season's biggest hits. Now while the show first premiered Off-Off-Broadway in 1978 prior to it's Off-Broadway premier in 1986 this new production will mark it's Broadway debut. Here is a synopsis of the show. Enjoy!

"It's opening night of Peter Austin's (Broderick) new play as he anxiously awaits to see if his show is a hit. With his career on the line, he shares his big First Night with his best friend, a television star (Lane), his fledgling producer (Mullally), his erratic leading lady (Channing), his wunderkind director, an infamous drama critic, and a wide-eyed coat check attendant on his first night in Manhattan. It’s alternately raucous, ridiculous and tender — reminding audiences why there’s no business like show business. Thank God!"

Sounds like a great night in the theatre don't you think? Tickets are scheduled to go on sale to the general public beginning on June 12 and I have no doubt that this show will sell very well.
