Tony Award winner Mark Rylance stars as the as the suddenly love-struck noblewoman Olivia. The play, presented in repertory with Richard III, features an all-male company playing both male and female roles, as the plays were originally staged in Shakespeare’s day. Filled with music, played live by musicians on traditional Elizabethan instruments in a gallery above the stage, the productions are lit almost exclusively by the glow of 100 on-stage candles.

Mistaken identity, wild characters and unusual courtships are all combined in one of Shakespeare's best-loved comedies.

A new revival of two of Shakespeare's most popular plays? Sounds like a good idea to me. Richard III and Twelth Night which recently played a sold out engagement in the West End are coming to Broadway this fall in a brand new production starring two-time Tony Award winner Mark Ryalance (Jerusalem, Boeing-Boeing). Both shows are scheduled to play a sixteen week engagement at the Belasco Theatre with Twelth Night beginning performances on October 15 and Richard III set to begin on October 19. Opening night for both is set for November 10. As of now the last performance is scheduled for February 1, 2014 but if reviews are good I would not be surprised if it extends. We shall see. Now believe it or not but in all the years that I have lived in New York I have never seen one of his plays. I guess I need to get out more. This is delightfully funny, timeless Shakespeare at its absolute finest, and it is not to be missed! Richard Duke of Gloucester (Mark Rylance) is determined that he should wear the crown of England. He has already dispatched one king and that king's son; now all that stands in his way are two credulous brothers and two helpless nephews - the Princes in the Tower. And woe betide those - the women he wrongs; the henchmen he betrays - who dare to raise a voice against him. Monstrous, but theatrically electric, Richard is Shakespeare's most charismatic, self-delighting villain, reveling at every moment in his homicidal, hypocritical journey to absolute power.
